Detroit Labs Apprentice Program Spring ’16

For those who have been waiting, good news: the Detroit Labs Apprentice Program is now accepting applicants interested in iOS programming!

Our apprenticeship is an intensive training and education program that teaches you how to build and ship software in a modern software development organization. During the course of the apprentice program, you will be teamed up with your fellow apprentices and the Detroit Labs education team in order to learn the specific technological, organizational, and collaboration skills necessary for success. Hands-on learning will take place in traditional instructor-led classroom sessions, solo projects, small group projects, workshops, code retreat style exercises, and more.

Apprentices earn a $500/week stipend, paid every two weeks on our normal payroll cycle. Your full responsibility and daily work as an apprentice will be to master the materials taught. Training will take place at or near our downtown Detroit headquarters.

Apprentices for this program are being trained to join our Detroit Labs OnSite business unit. This is our team that works for Detroit Labs at a Detroit Labs client site. Once you’ve completed your apprenticeship and have been placed on an OnSite client team, you will be eligible for the full Detroit Labs OnSite salary and benefits package including medical, dental, 401k match, disability, PTO, parental leave, etc. Your salary will be raised to a level determined by the specific client you are placed at, but no less than $40,000/year. Over the first eighteen months of employment promoted apprentices receive three performance reviews and possible salary increases commensurate with performance and client feedback.

Our intent is to choose an apprentice class with the best possible chance for success, and we hope to promote 100% of our apprentices to full-time developer status. However, the apprentice program runs for a maximum of three months and apprentices must demonstrate success at designated points throughout the apprentice program in order to maintain their status. Individuals that do not meet performance criteria or are not successful at the end of the program will not carry on at Detroit Labs.

Our apprentice programs are incredibly demanding, and incredibly rewarding. This is a lot of hard work and a full-time commitment to succeed. There is also a tremendous amount of competition to get into the program; be sure you are ready for this commitment before applying.
