IDC Industries, an innovative gear manufacturer in Michigan, faced a unique challenge when it came to HR. With no dedicated HR team, the General Manager managed employee needs, from benefits updates to policy questions. Over time, it became clear that finding answers in long, complex documents was causing confusion and taking up more of the General Manager’s time. IDC needed a solution that would help employees quickly get the information they needed while allowing their General Manager to stay focused on strategic responsibilities.

Employees often found themselves struggling to locate clear answers in dense HR documents, particularly during benefits enrollment periods. IDC needed a solution that would streamline access to HR information, allowing employees to get reliable, immediate answers on their own.
The Solution
To meet IDC’s needs, Detroit Labs designed a web-based document search tool powered by Google’s Vertex AI. This tool allows employees to search for answers using natural language–typing in questions in their own words and receiving clear, AI-generated responses with referenced source materials. Built with React and deployed on Google Cloud with Terraform for secure scalability, the tool equips IDC’s employees with on-demand access to HR information without needing direct assistance.

The HR search tool has empowered IDC’s employees to independently find answers to their questions, reducing the demand on their General Manager’s time and making the entire HR process more efficient. With a tool that simplifies and accelerates information retrieval, employees can now get accurate answers instantly, freeing up resources and supporting IDC’s entire team.
